Stay away from what I view as unclean food, usually posing as low- calorie frozen dinners. They’re not lean on unnatural ingredients and certainly not anything resembling cuisine. Sure, the dip’s got spinach and dairy, but it also includes hydrolized soy protein, high fructose corn syrup. Ignore nutritionists who encourage daylong snacking. I say stop snacking, and this should help a few pounds here and there melt away. Don’t forget the stop- eating- crap rule when you’re eating out too. Over the next couple of weeks, don’t get trapped in the salad- is- diet- food myth. There’s low nutrition in lettuce and lots of calories in dressing. When you find yourself out for lunch or dinner, make your own meal. Look over a menu to see what ingredients are on it, then ask the waiter to tell the chef you want the chicken breast out of the chicken sandwich and bring it with the side of chard that comes with the steak entr. Sometimes the chef can be very obliging. Get used to being a little hungry. This rule goes well with the stop- snacking rule. Some experts say hunger pangs send the body into starvation mode. Snacking your way to satiety is self- defeating. A few hunger pangs are a sign your stomach is getting accustomed to less. Also, eat dinner early so you’re up more hours to burn calories. You may go to bed a bit hungry, but there’s always breakfast eight hours away. Go to a farmers market. How do you use social networking in your business (or how does your business benefit from social networking sites)? This is where I think I’ve done something pretty unique. With absolutely no money for advertising, I realized I needed to generate word of mouth. So I sent lots of samples to bloggers for reviews and giveaways. Pretty soon, they were contacting me and, as of today, there are not only hundreds of reviews that link back to my site, but on a daily basis, there are dozens of new photographs posted of lunches packed in my Easy. Lunchboxes. Many of these pictures are posted on “bento blogs” — blogs that are all about packing lunches, but quite a number of them are posted on Instagram and tagged with #easylunchboxes. I am personally not active on Instagram. I don’t take daily pictures of the lunches I pack for my kids. But have generated tons of #easylunchboxes photos simply by sharing a post about how to share Instagram photos of your lunches. I would say that a huge number of my orders are a direct result of people finding my containers on Pinterest. Many of the Pinterest pins lead back to blog posts that have a link to my site or my Amazon store, where people can learn more and buy my products. The other thing I do is “re- package” images of packed lunches that people post on their blogs. If they post a few pictures of different lunches, I’ll take them and make a graphically interesting collage of their images, add their logo (if not already there) and add an eye- catching title to put it all together. I’ll post everywhere and link this “enhanced” image back to their site, bringing them lots of additional traffic. They love it! When people post images of meals packed in my ELB containers, I personally thank them by leaving a comment on their blog, re- pinning it, tweeting it, sharing it on Facebook or Google+, pretty much everywhere I can. Yes, it’s a lot to keep up with, but when someone hears from me or sees that that I’ve commented on their post or shared their image, they really appreciate the virtual pat on their back — and they tend to want to post my photos of my products again. The other really helpful resource are the private Facebook groups that I have been invited to join. Every once in a while, an app like Unroll. Sometimes, as in the case of Unroll. Now’s a good time to audit any other third- party apps you’ve given access to your accounts. Yesterday, The New York Times went deep into some of Uber’s shady business practices. Sometimes that’s because they’re adding something to that service, other times it’s simply because of a service called OAuth, which grants an app access to an account using a token. Either way, the whole point of the system is that you can instantly revoke access away from the third- party app with just a few clicks. This makes it easy to audit and get rid of any of those random apps you try for a day and then forget about. If you don’t remember an app, an app is free and you don’t understand the business model, or it just doesn’t sound familiar, it’s a good idea to ditch it. So, with that, let’s go ahead and give ourselves a good old fashioned audit. Google. Head to the Apps Connected to Your Account Page (Profile picture > My Accounts > Sign in & Security > Connected apps & sites > Manage apps). Click on the apps you want to revoke access from, click remove, then click Ok. Microsoft. Head to the Apps page (Accounts > Privacy, then scroll down to Apps and Services). Click Edit next to the app you want to remove, then click Remove these permissions. Yahoo! Head to the Manage App and Website Connections page (Click your profile icon > Account Info > Recent Activity), then click Remove next to any apps you want to revoke access from. Bizarrely, Flickr has its own page for doing this, ridiculously called the App Garden. Head to The App Garden Page (Click your Profile > Settings > Sharing & Extending, then click Edit next to Account Links), then click “Revoke permission?” next to any apps you want to remove.
